Welcome to Spring 2021, Adjunct Faculty!
Wrap-up your semester and prepare for Spring with support from the Center for Teaching and Learning.
Upcoming Events, Opportunities, & SupportCenter for Teaching and Learning Service Survey We want to hear from you. Please tell us how the Phoenix College Center for Teaching and Learning can serve you better by taking this brief service survey. This information will be used to help guide our ongoing efforts to improve our service, support, and professional development opportunities for PC faculty. Celebrate the Little Things with Canvas Confetti As an instructor, you can verify all external links throughout your Canvas course to ensure they are valid. This is an important regular housekeeping activity we recommend between semesters. You can check these links using the course link validator, a tool which quickly searches through course content and returns invalid or unresponsive external links in both published and unpublished content. The link validator also includes deleted links. Deleted links are links that are still in the course, but their linked content has been deleted (such as a course file or page). If the link validator does not detect any broken links in your course, you will now see a celebration for a job well done known as Confetti. Not a party animal? You can disable link validator celebrations in your user settings. Student Celebrations are Coming for Spring 2021 Student celebrations for submitting on-time assignments will be enabled on December 22 in time for Spring 2021. Because who doesn't love some fanfare for doing something right!? Mark Your Calendars for New Features A new feature for personal pronouns will be enabled in Canvas on December 22. Once enabled, this feature allows students, faculty, and staff to set their personal pronouns. Once set, pronouns appear in multiple places within Canvas, including next to a user's name, in comment fields, discussions, Inbox, and the People page. Students, faculty, and staff will be informed of this change via a Canvas announcement. Personal pronouns are used when referring to someone or ourselves (she, he, and they). Someone's personal pronouns may be different from what others initially assume. Not everyone uses the binary pronouns "he" or "she," and some prefer to be referred to by name only. Correctly using someone’s personal pronoun when communicating with them shows respect for their identities and helps foster an inclusive community that allows all students to succeed. Resources: Personal Pronouns Research Guide For diversity, equity, and inclusion questions or concerns, please contact Jacque Starks at [email protected]. For technical assistance about the Canvas feature, contact the CTL.
