Use the Syllabus Creator Spring 2021. Now easier and delivering shorter syllabi to you!
We have made it even easier to create a short, user-friendly, and compliant syllabus by streamlining the elements to just those directly related to the course.
The Phoenix College Syllabus Project is our campus-wide process for the management of all course syllabi. This District-wide Innovation of the Year winning process (article) was established by PC Residential Faculty in collaboration with Academic Affairs and Faculty Senate leadership to make meeting the requirements of A.R. 3.6 easier!
All Phoenix College faculty (including dual enrollment) must follow the requirements of MCCCD A.R. 3.6 "Distribution of the Course Syllabus." The process helps us to ensure faculty are aware of the specific requirements and provides guidance and tools to inform syllabus content and distribution.

Improvements & Updates
- Removed all non-required college and District statements to reduce the overall size of the syllabus from 7-9 pages to 4 pages or less
- Developed a District and College Policies and Resources document that can be optionally shared with students as a link in Canvas or as an addendum to the syllabus
- Updated the examples and instructions in the Creator to improve the usability
- Updated the Checklist to verify compliance
Getting Started
There are four steps.
Step 1 - Review the Regulation: Review MCCCD A.R. 3.6 and complete the semesterly Acknowledgment through the Employee Learn Center > My Learning Plans. Instructions for completing the Acknowledgement will be emailed to you through your employee Gmail each semester.
|
Step 2 - Create Your Syllabus:
Option A: You are encouraged to use the PC Syllabus Creator to create a new syllabus or to help verify the adherence of content of an existing syllabus. This form-based tool includes all the Maricopa required syllabus elements, as well as helpful sample language for a variety of course policies, procedures and resources for students. How does it work? It will take less than approximately 30 minutes to enter existing syllabus information into the form. After completing the Form an editable Google Doc copy of your syllabus will be sent to you with PC branding and required college policies already in place. Watch this video to learn more. Option B: If you opt not to use the Syllabus Creator, please use this PC Syllabus Checklist & Syllabus Statements document to verify your syllabus meets A.R. 3.6 and to update your syllabus with the most current syllabus statements. |
Step 3 - Submit Your Syllabus to the Department: As required by A.R. 3.6, submit a copy of your syllabus to the department no later than the end of the first week of class. The preference is for a digital copy to be emailed to the Department Chair, but check with your Chair for any department-specific requirements.
|
Step 4 - Present Your Syllabus to Your Students: As required by A.R. 3.6, present a course syllabus to students during the first week of class (before the end of drop-add). This may be a digital or hard copy. Faculty should place their course syllabi on to our learning management system, Canvas. Learn more about the Syllabus page in Canvas (video) and contact the CTL at [email protected] for one-on-one assistance.
