Innovation does not have to be a flashy new thing. It starts where you are, and can be as simple as finding a new way of doing something that solves a problem or meets a need. The syllabus is the most basic of education documents and as a result we can take for granted the important role it plays in the lives of students and our college. Our Innovation of the Year, the Phoenix College Syllabus Project, is a campus-wide process for the management of all course syllabi and helps ensure faculty are aware of and provides guidance and tools to more easily meet MCCCD syllabus requirements. The Project is about more than a tool. It is about fostering the cultural shift and change to business practices necessary to make sure our students are given the information to start them on their journey in each course successfully. PHOENIX COLLEGE SYLLABUS CREATOR PC Syllabus Project IOTY Presentation (From The Maricopian) MCCCD and the annual Innovation of the Year Award continues to encourage, recognize, and acknowledge employees and their innovative programs and projects, along with their commitment to excellence in education through innovation. The Phoenix College Syllabus Project, a campuswide process to manage all course syllabi, was named the Districtwide Innovation of the Year Award winner at a reception held at Rio Salado’s Conference Center on April 12. The project elevates student success by improving faculty awareness of course requirements, which aids them in providing the tools and resources necessary to guide students to achieve class and college requirements. The team was also awarded the Dr. Paul M. Pair Innovation of the Year Award of $2,000 which will be used to further the development of their innovation. In addition, the winning team will be invited by the League for Innovation in the Community Colleges to present their innovation at a future league conference. Well done, Phoenix College Syllabus Project team! |
