New RCE, July/August Release Changes, Online Tutoring Link, and WebExYou may have noticed some changes to Canvas! These include a new look and feel to the Rich Content Editor. Here is an overview document that explains the difference between the old and new RCE. You can watch a video about the new RCE and go to the Instructor Guide (scroll to New RCE) to view all relevant guides. New in the August release includes the ability to bulk delete pages (view feature video). In July, Canvas added the ability to bulk edit assignment due dates and availability, changed how published and unpublished courses are viewed, enhanced how files are uploaded to modules, enabled us to mute course notifications (on a course level), and a link to rubrics was added to the course navigation. To review these summer changes, you can visit this overview document. Effective over the summer, the Online Tutoring link now directs locally to our amazing team in the Learning Commons who know our students and faculty instead of the third-party vendor Brainfuse. Students can still access Brainfuse from the Learning Commons website. In mid-April, the WebEx integration was added to Canvas. Since that time, WebExTeams (Classroom Collaborations) has been enabled. See this documentation for more information about using WebEx in Canvas. Flash ContentCanvas displays Flash content as supported by major browsers. Microsoft Edge, Safari, Chrome, and Firefox default to HTML5 as the preferred method for displaying website content, which promotes a faster, more secure browsing experience. These browsers will eventually block all Flash content. For best performance in Canvas, course content should be designed to support HTML5. HTML5 is used instead of flash within the Rich Content Editor in Firefox and Chrome browsers. This feature is supported for students in the Submission Details page and for instructors in SpeedGrader. This change allows recorded media without requiring flash within the Firefox and Chrome browsers. Internet Explorer and Safari browsers do not support this functionality. Users will not notice any change and still require the use of Flash. Users can click the Media button in the Rich Content Editor and view an improved interface when recording media. Users can confirm their microphone and webcam, and if more than one device is supported, select which device should be used. If you have any questions about converting swf files to HTLM5, please contact the CTL.
